If you don't know your partner's temperament, and he or she has never taken the KTS-II, we've provided a Facebook App to help you figure it out. The App gives a few suggestions, but the limited space at Facebook only allowed us to fit a few suggestions there. You can go to the Facebook App by clicking here.

Suggestions for Guardians
Guardians are the cornerstone of society, for they are the temperament given to serving and preserving our most important social institutions. Practical, frugal, and down-to-earth, they prefer traditions and the tried-and-true way of doing things over the latest fads and technologies. "Flashy" would not a word to describe a good gift choice for most Guardians.

Based on our extensive surveys, your best gift bets for your Guardian partner meet some or all of the following criteria; he or she is likely to like gifts with the following characteristics:

  • Practical
  • Sentimental
  • Conventional
  • Not extravagant
If it is extravagant, then it should either have a practical use as well, or be something you got a "great deal" on.
  • Something he or she's wanted, but felt it was too much of a splurge to buy for themself - again, if you can get a good deal on it, they'll feel better about accepting it.
  • You asked him or her what they wanted - they'll appreciate it!

Gift suggestions for your Female Guardian partner:

  • Gift card to a store that allows her to buy something she's wanted but denied herself due to her frugality. (Don't give cash, she'll be most likely to feel like she should save it, or use for practical purposes).
  • A collectable item that you can add to each year as a set. This can become a very popular tradition for many Guardian women. Examples: crystal figurines, collectable porcelain figures.
  • Digital photo frame - this can be special if you pre-load it with sentimental photos. If you give it to her empty, she's likely to just think of it as a gadget.
  • Jewelry is always a winner with Guardian women. Nothing too flashy - a plain gold chain (or with a single pearl or stone), or diamond earrings. Something engraved may become a treasured gift, as well.
  • A "splurge gift" might be a weekend in Las Vegas. But emphasize the great deal - Vegas is full of great package deals that make it a "frugal" splurge.
  • An iPod preloaded with her favorite songs. Even better if the first playlist is "your songs".
  • A box of Godiva chocolates. This is one splurge that is popular with all women, regardless of their temperament.

Gift suggestions for your Male Guardian partner:

  • Digital photo frame for his desk. Preload it with photos of yourself and the two of you together. If you just give it to him empty, he's likely to look at it as a gadget.
  • Gift card to a store you know he likes to shop at for things for himself. Cash is not a good choice; most Guardians then feel they should save it, or use it to buy things that are "needed" as opposed to just "desired".
  • An iPod pre-loaded with his favorite bands or tunes. If you can create a playlist with songs that the two of you enjoy together, that can make it especially special.
  • Tickets to a sporting event, or a Pay-per-view "pass" to get a special event on cable.
  • A "splurge gift" might be a weekend in Las Vegas. But emphasize the great deal – Vegas is full of great package deals that make it a "frugal" splurge. If he's into golf, Las Vegas has a many courses, and again, bargains can be found.
  • A round of golf (if he is a golfer) at a course that he wouldn't otherwise play.

Suggestions for Artisans
Artisans want to be where the action is; they seek out adventure and show a constant hunger for pleasure and stimulation. They believe that variety is the spice of life, and that doing things that aren't fun or exciting is a waste of time. Flashy, extravagant, and trendy are words that might describe gifts Artisans will appreciate.

Based on our extensive surveys, your best gift bets for your Artisan partner meet some or all of the following criteria; he or she is likely to like gifts with the following characteristics:

  • Extravagant
  • Big surprise
  • Fun
  • Reminder of, or new opportunity for, a great occasion or experience
  • Action-oriented

Gift suggestions for your Female Artisan partner:

  • Luxury weekend for the two of you in Las Vegas. The deals are great right now, you can stay at a high-end resort with show tickets and dinners at celebrity chef restaurants for a fraction of what it cost before the recession. Include a "spa day" for her to make it really special.
  • Sensual lingerie from a store like Victoria's Secret.
  • Jewelry. For an Artisan woman, flashy is good. Diamonds are an Artisan girl's best friend.
  • Cool iPod / iPhone art skins such as these Gelaskins
  • "Whatever" clock. Perfect for the Artisan woman, who really doesn't want to be bothered with "being on time".
  • Gift card to a high-end accessories store or web site, such as Gucci or Coach.

Gift suggestions for your Male Artisan partner:

  • Luxury weekend for the two of you in Las Vegas. See above suggestion for Artisan Female partner.
  • Sexy boxer shorts
  • An accessory that goes with a favorite activity. Example: a new diving watch.
  • Cool iPod / iPhone art skins such as these Gelaskins (see link above for Artisan Female partner)
  • Sports memorabilia from his favorite team or athlete. Signed jerseys are popular.
  • Personal digital eyewear.
  • Nascar ride-along. For the thrill seeker.

Suggestions for Idealists
Idealists, as a temperament, are passionately concerned with personal growth and development. Idealists strive to discover who they are and how they can become their best possible self -- always this quest for self-knowledge and self-improvement drives their imagination. The real, practical world is only a starting place for Idealists; they believe that life is filled with possibilities waiting to be realized, rich with meanings calling out to be understood. In general, the more your gift shows that you "get" the uniqueness of your partner, the more he or she will appreciate it.

Based on our extensive surveys, your best gift bets for your Idealist partner meet some or all of the following criteria; he or she is likely to like gifts with the following characteristics:

  • Sentimental
  • Fun
  • Something that re-enforces his or her personal authenticity
  • The more "unique" it is to her or him, the better

Gift suggestions for your Female Idealist partner:

  • Weekend just for her at a mind-body-soul spa resort or retreat. Examples: Canyon Ranch, Esalon.
  • Digital photo frame with photos already loaded. It is very important that you select meaningful photos of the people she loves and give it to her with these already uploaded to the frame. If you give it to her still sealed in the box, it is likely to just be a "gadget".
  • Jewelry - a good bet here is a necklace, earrings, or a ring that features her birth stone. This is what makes it unique and personal to her.
  • Snuggly reading blanket, such as a "Slanket".
  • To go with the "Slanket", a good Idealist book is Let Your Life Speak by Parker J. Palmer
  • A DVD collection - MASH 11 season boxed set or Ken Burns boxed set.
  • An iPod preloaded with her favorite songs. Even better if the first playlist is "your songs".
  • Kindle e-book reader

Gift suggestions for your Male Idealist partner:

  • Kindle e-book reader (see link above)
  • Snuggly reading blanket, such as a "Slanket". (see link above)
  • A leather bound journal with a high quality pen.
  • Audio book Jay Allison - This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women
  • A DVD collection - MASH 11 season boxed set or a Ken Burns boxed set.
  • An iPod preloaded with his favorite bands and songs. Even better if the first playlist is "your songs".

Suggestions for Rationals
Rationals are the problem solving temperament, particularly if the problem has to do with the many complex systems that make up the world around us. Often they are seen as cold and distant, but this is really the absorbed concentration they give to whatever problem they're working on. Rationals value intelligence, in themselves and others, and they pride themselves on the ingenuity they bring to their problem solving. They tend to be the least sentimental and traditional of the 4 temperaments, and the least into the spirit of holiday gift giving. Gifts that stretch their minds, or somehow add to their competence in some area are often most appreciated.

Based on our extensive surveys, your best gift bets for your Rational partner meet some or all of the following criteria; he or she is likely to like gifts with the following characteristics:

  • Complex
  • Mentally challenging
  • Latest technology
  • Books, and anything to do with books are usually a good bet
