Playmate, Soulmate, Helpmate, or Mindmate:
What Type is your Valentine?
By Dr. Lovegood
After you determine which of the four mates below is most like your Valentine, find out what his or her temperament is here.
The Playmate. Your Valentine craves excitement - and brings you along for the ride. Whether it's adventure travel, extreme sports,
passionate sex, or the pursuit of an ambitious dream, one thing is certain: with your partner, things are never, ever dull. This temperament
type abhors the idea of being in a rut, is generous with gifts, and loves to create memorable surprises. But be forewarned: this type can be
slow to commit romantically, can be fickle if your relationship is losing its spark, and will simply bolt if they feel fenced in or tied down.
The Helpmate. Your Valentine is supportive, always "there" for you, and views your romantic relationship as one of life's serious endeavors.
This temperament type is likely to adhere to traditional gender roles; however, when dealing with the expectations of more "modern" partners,
they can feel torn by old-fashioned roles. They expect you to be on time. They are extremely neat, and they want you to be, too. Trying not to
be sidetracked by emotional feelings or moods, they often view breadwinning, keeping house, and even sex as "duties" that must be fulfilled.
They won't be particularly jealous if you flirt with others - but they won't like it if you dance with someone else. When courting is over,
career and other community-based demands may take priority over romance.
The Soulmate. For your Valentine, romance is a way of life - and not only in the realm of relationships. This temperament type looks to
a partner for deep connection, open communication, the sharing of dreams and life purposes, ongoing exploration of feelings, and sex as
communion (and they tend to believe that sex best comes after development of a meaningful relationship). They don't mind you dancing with
someone else, but won't like it if you flirt with others. They not only willingly accept your "darker side", but may even find your faults
compelling. However, if you tumble from the pedestal this partner has erected, beware! This Valentine may also be plagued (and plague you)
with persistent anxiety and worry about the relationship, perhaps that things are "too good to be true."
The Mindmate. Your Valentine chose you as a partner with great deliberation. This temperament type doesn't enjoy the "time wasters" that
often go along with relationships - the niceties of courtship, continuous "processing" of emotional issues, romantic gestures, proclamations,
and outpourings that (to them) restate the obvious. They expect you to be on time, and they want to know your complete sexual history. They
offer stimulating intellectual intercourse, and if you enjoy discussing such things as great books, philosophy, or scientific theory, this
mate will never criticize you for being boring or "too deep." They appreciate intelligence and expertise the way others adore looks, money,
or status. They want you to respect the time and energy they put into their interests.
